Beltzer Psychological Services, PLLC

Hi! I’m Dr. Miranda Beltzer, a licensed clinical psychologist in New York City.

My Work

Individual Therapy

Whether you are going through a life transition, or whether you have been struggling for a while, therapy can help you to break out of patterns that no longer work for you and to grow in the direction of your values. Together, we will build a personalized treatment program targeting your goals, based on the best available evidence. I will support you as you learn and implement new skills and practices in your daily life.

Couples Therapy

Many couples go through difficult periods where communication and connection break down. In our sessions, we can map out the negative cycle you and your partner get stuck in, understand the underlying emotions driving it, and change your dynamic in a validating, open environment.

Digital Mental Health

Some people face barriers to accessing psychotherapy or prefer digital tools. To bring evidence-based principles and techniques into more accessible forms, I design and evaluate digital programs for mental health. I am particularly interested in using reinforcement learning to guide users to the interventions that will be most helpful to them at the right time.

I create an affirming space for people from diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds, immigrants, and LGBTQIA+ individuals and couples.

You are welcome here.

About Me

I work with adults and couples, providing nonjudgmental, empathic psychotherapy tailored to each client’s unique goals and based on the best available research. Together, we can identify where you are feeling stuck—in patterns of thinking, in behaviors that aren’t consistent with your values, in social relationship challenges—and design a treatment program to get you “unstuck” and moving towards the life you want to live.

I have expertise in treating anxiety disorders, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, emotion regulation difficulties, and relationship challenges. Based on each person’s needs and strengths, my approach flexibly incorporates elements of a variety of treatments shown to be effective in research studies, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, exposure and response prevention, acceptance and commitment therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and emotionally focused couples therapy.

Before opening my practice, I completed over 10 years of clinical and research training. I completed my undergraduate degree at Harvard University, worked as a clinical research assistant at McLean Hospital, and earned my Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of Virginia. I completed a pre-doctoral clinical internship at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College and a clinical postdoctoral fellowship at New York Anxiety Treatment.

In addition to seeing clients, I care deeply about expanding access to other types of evidence-based psychological interventions. I previously worked as a federally-funded postdoctoral fellow in digital mental health research at the Center for Behavioral Intervention Technologies at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. There, I used human-centered design methods to develop and evaluate digital programs for people with anxiety and depression who may prefer digital tools or have difficulty accessing psychotherapy. I have disseminated my work by publishing in scientific journals and by presenting at conferences nationally and internationally. I continue to build and evaluate digital mental health interventions through work in industry.

I am currently seeing clients in New York state through HIPAA-compliant videoconferencing. I am an out-of-network provider, and I am happy to provide invoices that you can submit to your insurance if you have out-of-network benefits.
